Fishing Graphic Poster (Illustrator 2020)

This project was the final for the Advanced Digital Imaging class. The requirements of this project were to create a poster design that meant something to you, needed inspiration or a similar design based on another piece of artwork, and utilize around two or three editing programs/art style choices to accomplish this goal. The poster I created was about my family fishing trip spot in Cable, Wisconsin. The poster is a silhouette base on the scenery inside of a figure; the figure is my own grandpa and the log cabin is where my family stays during our trip. The poster was based on a Sherlock Holmes poster using this style of 2D graphics, but also taking inspiration from the Natural Wildlife preserve posters that are mainly scenery based. The editing tool I used was Photoshop to collage my scenery together with how I wanted, using it as a base and rough example of how I wanted the graphic to look or be spaced with other objects. While it isn’t a collage with looking at the final product, but cut apart photos of our fishing trips and stitched them together to create the scene, making an image that doesn’t actually exist (with the lake being much farther away from the cabin). I then went into Illustrator to create the 2D graphics of the location and family members, later adding shading. I also added details of a splattered paint design with smudges or pulling of colors from a paintbrush as an artist's choice, accomplishing this by pulling away parts of the silhouette of my grandfather to reveal parts or patches of the scenery behind, then blurring it out. This effect was mainly accomplished by the number of layers created. A lot of back-and-forths with input from my professor pushed this piece into one of my favorites. This was well received by my family and even the resort who mounted my work in the cabin that we stayed in. I wanted to keep this art style for other projects, applying it for another poster that I’ve nearly completed for my brother but is on hold at the moment.
